Hambleton Leisure Centre Project

Whats Happening?

The £2.5m re-vamp of Hambleton Leisure Centre gained planning approval on 30 March 2017.

In addition to the Council’s capital commitment, Sport England is also providing £213k to the project.

What does the planning application include?

  • New state-of -the-art fitness suite extension that doubles the current workout space and includes a toning studio, accessible toilet and changing area and 24 hour gym access.
  • Remodelling of dry female and male members' changing areas and toilets.
  • Remodelling of pool changing village.
  • Remodelling of multi-purpose/spinning studio and dance studio.
  • New platform lift.
  • Sports Hall refurbishment
  • Essential maintenance works to poolside

When does the project start?

The start date for construction works is 26 June 2017.

A temporary Site Compound was erected on Monday 19 June and will extend up to approximately 5m from the football pitch touchline near the leisure centre. Ten nearby parking bays have been taken out of use to allow access into the Site Compound and contractor parking. There is also likely to be an increase in traffic coming in and out of the carpark during the works.

Will there be any closure?

Yes, but we have a phased approach to the redevelopment and will be closing individual areas on a basis that minimises disruption to customers. Our contractors are experienced in delivering improvements whilst services remain open, where feasible.

Phase 1

Building works commence 26 June 2017 on the fitness suite extension. Access to the current gym will be unaffected by this.

Phase 1 closures are listed below:

  1. The outdoor changing rooms will be closed for 8 weeks to allow contractors unrestricted access. These works will commence 26 June 2017 until 18 August 2017.
  2. The sports hall will be closed for a period of 6 weeks. The refurbishment of the Sports Hall will commence 24 July 2017 until 1 September 2017.
