Website information and advice
Due to the huge amount of information that is contained on this website, finding your way around can be a little daunting. We have done our best to make it as easy as possible to use and the most popular sections are all linked to directly from our homepage. The following sections will give you some helpful tips on how to find your way around and explain how the site is organised.
How this site is organised
This website contains a wealth of information about all the services that are offered by Hambleton District Council. The pages are organised using a national standard (the Local Government Navigation List) and this includes entries for all council services not just the ones offered by Hambleton District Council. You will therefore find many links on this site that will take you directly to our partner organisations (such as North Yorkshire County Council).
To assist you with moving back and forth between the pages on our site there is a 'bread crumb' trail at the top of each page - starting with "Home" - so you can see the path you have followed to reach your destination and use it to revisit previous pages (or you may prefer to use your browser's back button).
Looking for information
There are four main ways that you can find information on this website.
Search
This is most people's favourite and is usually the quickest way to find something. At the top of every page you will see the Search box; use this to type in your own words and carry out a search for these on the website. It is best to use one or two key words rather than a long sentence.
A-Z of services
The A-Z is another easy way of finding information on the site; it lists all council services in alphabetical order. You will find a link to this at the very top of every page. Simply click on the first letter of the service you require. For example, if you want to find information on pest control, you may choose to click on the letter 'P' for pests, or perhaps 'R' for rats.
Menu structure
At the foot of every page (you may have to scroll down a little) you will see our standard menu under the Services title. Click on any entry from the menu to see a list of items that that title covers. Selecting any of these will give you a list of specific services down the left-hand side of the screen that you can then click on.
Frequently Asked Questions
Finally, there is a list of frequently asked questions on the website. This section gives quick answers to common questions, but does not go into as much detail as the rest of the website. Questions are split into categories - clicking on a category will let you see the questions that are listed for that topic.
Jargon
We always try our best to use plain English at all times, but there will still be the odd word or phrase that is not easy to understand. A useful glossary to public services (and voluntary sector) jargon can be found at www.societyguardian.co.uk/glossary Opens in a new window.
