Holocaust Memoral Day Marked
Published on Thursday, 24th January 2019
Hambleton District Council will mark national Holocaust Memorial Day this weekend.
The flag will be lowered at the Civic Centre in Northallerton to remember the millions of people who have been murdered or whose lives have been changed beyond recognition during the Holocaust and Nazi Persecution - and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. 27 January also marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
The theme for the 2019 remembrance is ‘torn from home’ which encourages people to reflect on how the enforced loss of a safe place to call home is part of the trauma faced by anyone experiencing persecution and genocide
