Bedale to Star in 2019 Tour

Bedale has been unveiled as one of the four finish towns for the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire.
Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation announced today (Friday 7 December) that the race will finish in the market town on day two – Friday 3 May. And there will be not one but two finishes as the town plays host to both the men’s and women’s races.
“This is a massive event for Hambleton and especially for Bedale,” said District Council Leader, Councillor Mark Robson.
“We have already started planning for the event – we want Bedale to be a finish to remember. The riders come into the market place having ridden a grueling 134km from Barnsley taking in some twists and turns along the way. We hope they will appreciate a great Hambleton welcome when they arrive!”
The two races start from Barnsley and head to Ripon before wending their way through West Tanfield, Nosterfield, Carthorpe, Burneston and Exelby before the finish line in Bedale.
The race is once more four days - Bedale is joined by Barnsley, Bridlington, Doncaster, Halifax, Leeds, Scarborough and Selby as host towns. It takes place from 2- 5 May.
- Hambleton is also hosting the the UCI Road World Championships in 2019 - the Men’s Elite Individual Time Trial start from Northallerton in September.
Route details for North Yorkshire:
Stage 1: Thursday 2 May - starts in Doncaster and ends in Selby, covering 180km taking in
Stage 2: Friday 3 May – starts in Barnsley and ends in Bedale, covering 134km. The route will take in Barnsley, Pontefract, Alwoodley, Harlow Carr and Harrogate, Ripley, Ripon and Bedale
Stage 3: Saturday 4 May - starts in Bridlington and ends in Scarborough, covering 135km.
Stage 4: Sunday 5 May - starts in Halifax and ends in Leeds, covering 182km.
