Big finale for trail run
Published on Monday, 3rd September 2018
The final week of a hugely successful summer series of trail running saw 55 people take to the woods and hills around Osmotherley!
In total 114 runners took part in the six week programme organised by Hambleton District Council in partnership with local running clubs. It boosted the already popular weekly social runs.
"The response to the series has been incredible,” said Mel Gurney the Trail Run Leader.
“Each week we had between 40 and 50 runners taking on the beautiful trails around Osmotherley. We have had a great mixture of runners from the more experienced to those who have used the series to give the trails a go for the first time. It has been a challenge but its been great to see more people giving trail running a try. Due to the success of the programme we are going to continue to meet up for social trail runs, with our next one being held at Kilburn Woods in Thirsk.”
And David Earl – Development Officer – Health and Wellbeing added, ““Hambleton District Council has been working with local runners and running groups to help the community running scene grow and flourish for a number of years now. Trail running, in addition to all the accepted benefits of road running, has enormous mental health benefits plus amazing countryside and its fun too.”
Details of future runs can be found on facebook at ‘Social Trails Osmotherley’.
