Junior parkrun

Northallerton’s first ever junior parkrun took place last month.

Over 50 children aged 4 – 14 took part in the free 2km timed run on the playing fields around Northallerton Leisure Centre.

“It was fantastic to see so many young people out early on a Sunday morning enjoying themselves,” said Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, pictured on the start line.

“The atmosphere was brilliant and thanks must go to Wendy Cullen, Sarah Schofield, Kate Owens and Sarah Norman in getting the junior parkrun started. It has taken them a lot of hard work and a huge amount of time over the last eight months not to mention getting donations from local businesses and organisations, but they are so proud to see that their efforts have paid off and see so many children taking part and having fun.”

The junior parkrun will take place each Sunday morning at 9am at Stone Cross and children can run/walk the course on their own or with parents or guardians.

To take part, all runners and volunteers need to do is register on the parkrun event page and bring their unique printed parkrun barcode with them - simply visit: www.parkrun.org.uk/northallerton-juniors/
