What keeps you awake at night, when operating a business was the key topic up for discussion at a major conference held in Easingwold last week.
Now in its sixth year the Hambleton Business Conference event attracted more than 120 people from 70 businesses in the district.
Delegates from businesses learnt how to deal with the worries that disturb them in the early hours, whether it is Cyber Crime, attracting and keeping the right people in their business, or Brexit. All subjects a good night’s sleep.
The key note speech delivered by Barry Dodd, CBE and HM Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire focussed on growing a business and attracting and keeping good people, in his experience, running a global manufacturing business.
Martin McTague, National Policy Director on Brexit for FSB gave a background to Brexit and talked about how small firms and the self-employed would be affected by Brexit.
Head of Skills for the LEP, Annabel Jelley, covered issues regarding the skilled workforce, aging workforce, careers guidance in schools, the untapped workforce and gender pay gap.
DS Shelton Newsham, Regional Cyber Crime Unit, and Sue Cross, of Stokesley based Roseberry Training talked about the National Cyber Security Strategy and managing risks in business, presenting practical tips to assist your business in protecting themselves against cyber-attacks.
And all who attended were able to take away top tips about what might be expected from Brexit, how to be Cyber safe how to find and keep good people.
“We are delighted to bring businesses and organisations together to learn from these specialists and to provide an opportunity for delegates to be inspired to move their own businesses forward,” said Councillor Peter Wilkinson, Deputy Leader of the Council.
“The speakers promoted some very interesting talking points and we hope with their experience we have helped provide guidance to businesses across the district.
