Painting the pool pink for charity

Hambleton’s four leisure centres were ‘in the pink’ last week( 23 March)– as swimmers celebrated Sport Relief.
The water in each of the centre’s pools changed colour for a special family based ‘disco splash’. More than 400 swimmers joined in the fun at Northallerton, Thirsk, Stokesley and Bedale.
“The turnout to our Disco Splash event and the reaction to the pool water changing colour was fantastic,” said Caroline Ancell, Swim Community Activator.
“There was a great atmosphere at all of our leisure centres with customers dancing along to their favourite songs. The customer feedback we have received since has been brilliant.”
Disco Splash was the finale to a week of swim themed activities in aid of Sport Relief (17-23 March). A total of 88 miles were swum in a ‘Swim a mile for Sport Relief’ challenge - 50 miles were swum by 313 children from eight schools across the four market towns and a further 38 miles were swum by individuals. Donation buckets and a Bake Sale at the centres provided the icing on the cake, taking the donations to £526.88.
