The £2.5m re-vamp of Northallerton’s leisure centre is well underway.
Construction work on the Hambleton District Council run facility started in June – it includes a gym extension, toning studio and two studios for group exercise and spinning classes, and new, improved changing rooms.
Phase 2 of the works starts next week (4 September) which includes the Changing Village and pool side. The swimming pool will be shut for general swimming for 12 weeks (until Friday 24 November) to allow for the remodelling of the Changing Village and Sauna and general poolside maintenance works,
Phase1 of the works which includes work on the gym extension, the outdoor changing rooms and sports hall refurbishment is going to plan with the sports hall re-opening on Saturday 2 September .
Centre members and regular customers have been informed via letter or email – with information on the work also displayed within the centre and on: www.hlc-development.co.uk
Customers who wish to continue swimming during the closure are encouraged to use the swimming pools available at Bedale, Stokesley or Thirsk & Sowerby.
- The lion’s share of the project will be borne by Hambleton District Council itself – councillors will invest £2.3 million to extend and refurbish the health and fitness facilities. The remaining £213,000 comes as National Lottery funding from Sport England – which is specifically targeted at improving the swim change facilities.
