Ey Up Stand Up meets Bloomin Words

Published on Tuesday, 29th November 2016

Spoken word, music and comedy events are coming to Thirsk and Northallerton next month.

Ey Up Stand Up joins forces with Bloomin Words for two shows on Sunday 11 December both hosted by local Radio 4 stand-up poet Kate Fox.

First up is an ‘afternoon of tea and vegetables’ at White Rose Book Café in Thirsk at 4pm where national funny poet John Hegley will entertain with his family show and give away free fig rolls to anyone wearing spectacles.  Suitable for ages eight and over tickets are £5 or £16 for a family of four – available from the bookshop or

The second show takes place at the Forum in Northallerton where John Hegley will be joined by Yorkshire poetry stars “The Firm of Poets”, a rock-band style group of poets who have wowed audiences everywhere from Hull’s Freedom Festival to the Glastonbury Festival and includes a glass of wine and a mince pie. The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 and available from the Forum on 01609 776230 or at

“I have been overwhelmed at the support we have had for all the events we have run in the past four years,” said Kate Fox.

“At a time when arts funding is squeezed, rural areas are often underserved when it comes to the arts and live literature. It has been wonderful to have such forward thinking partners as the White Rose Book Cafe and Hambleton District Council and audiences who are up for trying new things and discovering that poetry can be part of a brilliant night out rather than stuffy readings and school memories. We are hoping that by having these events as part of the Christmas offering in Thirsk and Northallerton will mean even more people will discover what is going on, on their door step”.
