Frustrations shared - Northallerton Link Road

Hambleton District Council shares residents’ frustration that the new North Northallerton link road and bridge, which to the eye appears complete, has not yet been opened.

The District Council came up with the idea for the link road and bridge in its Local Plan. It secured funding for it from the housing developers and a grant from the Local Enterprise Partnership. However, the timing of the opening rests between Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes and the Highway Authority, North Yorkshire County Council.

A Safety Audit, which is standard practice before a new road can be opened, showed that there are some minor remedial works needed before it can be opened.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Mark Robson said: “We share our residents’ frustrations but the opening is now dependent on how quickly the housing developers can get the works done.

“We will continue to press Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes to complete these works and the Highway Authority to sign them off as soon as possible so that our residents and businesses can reap the benefit and make full use of the new link road.”
