Over a hundred people attended this week’s public consultation event for the district’s proposed new crematorium on land near Skipton on Swale.

“The feedback was very positive,” said Leader of Hambleton District Council, Councillor Mark Robson.

“There is a proven need for a crematorium in this region to serve the needs of the people within this community who are currently unserved by any other crematorium within a 40-minute drive time. By building the crematorium the council will be able to provide an essential service to the residents of Hambleton and the wider area."

The plans and information boards  are now on view at the district council offices at Civic Centre, Rotary Way, Stone Cross, Northallerton residents can complete the consultation online at - closing date 16 March, 2020.

It is hoped that a planning application will be submitted in April with work to start in Autumn 2020 and open towards the end of 2021.

“When completed, the new crematorium will offer state-of-the-art facilities combined with more traditional aspects. With fewer than sixty new crematoria built in the UK over the past thirty-five years, this will be an important local asset for the district - something not already here and something really quite special,” added Councillor Robson
