Reunited in training

Two school friends separated by 7,500 miles – but both playing football abroad – were reunited in Hambleton this summer.
Graham Caygill and Matt Goodwin have been training together at Hambleton Leisure Centre gym in Northallerton to keep their fitness levels sharp ready for the start of their new seasons.
Both played for Bedale Town and Northallerton Academy teams before pursuing separate careers abroad. Matt, aged 24 from Aiskew, returns to Spain this week where he plays semi-professionally in Granada – while 24 year old Graham will be heading back to the Phillipines where he plays professionally for Meralco Loyola Sparks in the top division of the country’s National League. The striker scored ten goals in seven starts last season.
“It’s really exciting playing football in Manila, but great to come home to Northallerton,” said Graham. “And because it is essential for me to keep fit it’s great to have such good facilities on my doorstep.”
Matt, who was home for just three weeks, added: “Graham and I grew up at Bedale High School together, but it’s just coincidental that we are home at the same time. However it’s been great to be able to train together again. I have learned a lot in Spain, where the game is more technical and less physical.”
