Swapping kindling for woollen vests

A Northallerton charity which supports adults with disabilities swapped chopping sticks for stringing woollen vests together this week!
The Chopsticks volunteers made bunting out of jerseys knitted by local knitting groups to decorate the town centre in preparation for the visit by the world cycle championships next week.
“It was a bit of a change for them as their normal work is to produce premium grade kindling, wood craft and gardening,” said Hambleton District Council Cabinet Member, Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune (pictured helping to string the jerseys together with the string she had crocheted).
“But they wanted to do their bit for the visit of the championships and seeing the work of our knitters come together was very exciting.”
The bunting is being strung very close to the start line of the UCI Road World Championships men’s elite time trial which sets off from Northallerton High Street at lunchtime on Wednesday September 25.
