Farmers market hailed a success

The return of the award winning Northern Dales Farmers’ market to Thirsk was hailed a big success by delighted shoppers and traders. And so much so that another one is planned.

Hambleton District Council’s Vibrant Market Towns Team which focuses on developing projects that will enhance the vibrancy of Hambleton’s traditional market towns have worked with Northern Dales Farmers’ Market to see it return to Thirsk.

The market is one of the UK’s largest organisations of its kind, running local food markets at locations almost every weekend across North Yorkshire, Teesside and County Durham.

“We had 18 stalls turn out for this first market and we would like to thank the good people of Thirsk and its visitors for a warm welcome and support for our fantastic artisan food producers,” said Nigel Davison, market manager.

““The customers who visit our markets know that the food on offer is not mass produced and it has been made using high quality ingredients and is brought to market fresh that day. We would love to make this a monthly event.”

And Leader of Hambleton District Council, Councillor  Mark Robson added “It was great to see such a wealth of support for the market, we had no complaints and no negative feedback.  We spoke to all the shops in the market place so that they were aware of the market and some even opened especially.  Our markets are important contributors to making our towns vibrant and we are keen to ensure they remain a key element of the market town experience for residents and visitors.”

The next market takes place on Sunday 22 September from 10am – 3pm.
