Sowerby sports village

Sowerby Sports Village is an exciting development which aims to provide facilities for sport and recreation in the area.

Located off Gravel Hole Lane in Sowerby the 11.1 hectare site was transferred to Hambleton District Council in 2016 to be developed for recreational purposes as part of the Sowerby Gateway masterplan.

The ambitious project is well underway. Funding totalling £643,118 was secured from the European Regional Development Fund to part fund Phase 1 of the project, which included land remediation of the former landfill area, installation of a sustainable drainage system, allotments, a car park, a fitness trail and landscaping for informal recreation.

Hambleton District Council funded Phase 2, which included the installation of grass pitches, and an additional car park. A further £511,912 funding has been secured from the Football Foundation for a full size 3G artificial pitch, which is in its final stages of development.

Hambleton District Council is funding the build of changing provision adjacent to the 3G pitch. Work is currently ongoing and should be complete by March 2023.
