Sowerby sports village

Sowerby Sports Village is an exciting development which aims to provide facilities for sport and recreation in the area.

Located off Gravel Hole Lane in Sowerby the 11.1 hectare site was transferred to Hambleton District Council in 2016 to be developed for recreational purposes as part of the Sowerby Gateway masterplan. The council is now actively seeking external funding to deliver the project and has already secured £638,000 from the European Regional Development Fund.

The ambitious scheme has secured planning permission and work is now underway to secure funding to build the facility. £643,118 has already been secured from the European Regional Development Fund to part fund Phase 1 which will be built by April 2019 and include land remediation of the former landfill area, installation of a sustainable drainage system, allotments, a fitness trail and landscaping for informal recreation. Subject to funding Phase 2 will include grass pitches, a full size 3G artificial pitch and pavilion.
