Energy Saving Tips for Householders
Here are a few easy tips we can all use to reduce our CO2 usage and make climate friendly choices.
- Reduce the amount of household waste you produce and recycle as much as you can
- Consume local and seasonal products
- Don’t buy clothes you don’t need
- Make sure you only buy what you’ll eat and avoid waste (plan your meals)
- Move furniture away from radiators allowing heat to circulate rather than turning up your heating
- Use draught excluders to prevent heat escaping
- Use low energy lightbulbs
- Turn down a notch your heating thermostat and your hot water temperature
- Take a shower rather than a bath it’ll use less water
- Put a lid on your pans when cooking
- Wash clothes at 30°C or even 20°C rather than 40°C
- Hang out washing rather than using a tumble-dryer
- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth/shaving/washing up
- Make sure your dishwasher is full before using it or wash up by hand
- Unplug devices when not in use
- When appliances need replacing always go for energy efficient models
- Turn off lights
- Insulate your roof
- Install smart meters to track your energy consumption
- Cycle, walk or use public transport whenever possible
