Licence - private hire vehicle - minicab
Private hire vehicles (often also called by the generic name of "taxi") must be booked in advance. They cannot pick up passengers in the street unless they are pre-booked and cannot operate from hackney carriage ranks. If they do pick up passengers who have not pre-booked it is highly likely that the insurance cover will be invalidated.
Vehicles must be licensed by the Council and are subject to stringent conditions as to their operation and maintenance. Drivers must also be licensed and are subject to medical and criminal record checks
For more information or to request an application form contact the Licensing office on Tel 01609 767079 / 767017.
