Cycle lanes and routes

The District Council is committed to promoting cycling as an alternative mode of travel to the car for short trips or as part of longer journeys.

The Council works in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council on initiatives that improve access to cycling. This commitment is acknowledged in the current Local Transport Plan, Local Development Framework and Climate Change Strategy.

Cycle routes

Looking for a new Cycle route, bike ride, or single track, somewhere you haven't been before perhaps? Or if you are planning a Cycling holiday, but don't know where is the best place to Cycle? Cycle Route Opens in a new window is a great site for finding cycle routes, mountain bike trails and single tracks that have been tried and tested.

Cycling to Health

The District Council has established a 'Cycle to Health' scheme which is an offshoot of the highly successful 'exercise referral' scheme where GPs and health professionals can refer patients to the gym to help them in recovery from illness or simply to get fitter. The concept is the same but patients can access a 10 week cycling course led by volunteer cyclists. If you are interested in this scheme please do not hesitate to contact us by clicking here
