Free Parking

Hambleton District Council provides and maintains 2,275 "Off-Street" parking spaces throughout the District. The majority are situated in the market towns of Northallerton, Thirsk, Bedale, Stokesley and Easingwold. A car park is also provided at the village of Great Ayton.

Secured Car Parks
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) launched the Secured Car Parks scheme in 1992 as part of their "Secured by Design" initiative to encourage those responsible for car parks to improve security standards as a means of reducing criminal activity, the fear of crime and perception of crime in all car parks and vehicle retention areas.

Hambleton District Council gained Secured Car Parks status in June 2002 for the following car parks:

  • Applegarth Car Park, Northallerton
  • Hambleton Forum Car Park, Northallerton
  • Crosby Rd Car Park, Northallerton
  • Thirsk Swimming Pool Car Park, Thirsk
  • Millgate Marage Car Parks, Thirsk

North Yorkshire County Council administers and maintains the "On-Street" parking spaces throughout the district.

The District Council acts as agents for North Yorkshire County Council in respect of administration and enforcement of the "On-Street" Parking Order along Kirkgate at Thirsk.

Parking in the district is free, however there are waiting restrictions varying from 2 to 3 hours on a total of 709 spaces in Northallerton, Thirsk and Stokesley.

The restrictions are monitored by a "Disc Parking" scheme where the motorist is required to display a parking disk indicating the arrival time of the vehicle.

The discs are available in most local shops and Tourist Information Centres and they are to be correctly set and clearly displayed on the front windscreen dashboard of the vehicle.

A 5-space coach park is situated at Millgate, Thirsk and Heavy Goods Vehicles are allowed to park overnight at the Applegarth Car Park in Northallerton.

74 parking spaces for the disabled are provided throughout the District by the Council.
