Get Your 3 x 30
Local people have turned into 'poster' stars as part of a new campaign to encourage everyone to 'get active'.
It aims to get people of all ages to take at least three 30 minute sessions of exercise a week - as part of their every day lifestyle.
Posters asking 'how do you get your 3 x 30 minutes' are going up around the district.
Backed by the North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust (PCT), the campaign will also see new opportunities provided particularly for the over 50s. Parish Councils, local sports clubs, leisure centres and employers will be encouraged to do more to help residents take up active lifestyles.
"Physical activity helps avoid obesity, diabetes and heart disease in later life," said Dr Phil Kirby of the PCT's Public Health Department.
"And it could be as simple as walking more often, cycling to work, playing with the children, swimming, dancing - or gardening,"
Current statistics show that while Hambleton is the most active district in Yorkshire only one in four adults are taking part in three sessions of 30 minute exercise every week.
"The last time Sport England undertook a full national survey Hambleton residents came out as the most active in Yorkshire," said Hambleton's Assistant Director, Dave Goodwin.
"That is great news - however the rate was just 25.9% which means only one in four adults are taking part in three 30 minute sessions of physical activity each week. Our aim is to increase that rate - which will be good news for residents themselves and at the same time will help reduce the costs of dealing with ill health in years to come."
