the hambleton arts plan

A new arts plan for the district of Hambleton has recently been produced. The aim is that this will provide a strategic framework upon which to base the Council's revenue and capital spending on the arts, and to define clearly the role of the Council and council officers in arts development.

6. Royal Shakespeare Company
A tradition of the RSC visiting Northallerton has developed over the years. Previous performances in the town's Leisure Centre have been 'Measure for Measure' and 'Blue Angel' (1992); 'Henry VI Battle for the Throne' (1994); 'Romeo and Juliet' (1997); 'The Tempest' (2001) and 'Coriolanus' and 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' (2003). The week long stay by the RSC has enabled some 10,000 people to enjoy world class theatre in the District.

7. Dance Project
'The Vibe' is a five year project that will enable young people (4-24 year-olds) to take part in performing arts and combined arts.

10. Increasing Awareness
There are many arts opportunities in Hambleton, and to ensure that people are aware of them Hambleton Arts, in conjunction with the council, produce a quality 'Whats On' guide and an events listing service. These are available at libraries and leisure centres or from Hambleton Arts: e-mail: ann.hutchings@virgin.net
In addition an on-line event diary is available on this website where you can register your own event on-line by completing the proforma on the page.

11. Hambleton Forum
The Hambleton Forum is one of the largest multi-use facilities in the area. The centre is available for hire for regular block bookings of one-off events and, also has its own programme of arts events.

Hambleton Forum's Spotlight Opens in a new window programme is produced on a regular basis and provides up to date information on one-off art events and regular arts bookings.

13. In2arts Hambleton Arts successfully gained Lottery funding in 2002 towards an equipment bank for local arts organisations. The equipment, which is housed at the Hambleton Forum in Northallerton, includes sound and lighting equipment, modular staging units and display boards. The idea behind having the equipment bank is to allow small arts groups the opportunity to host quality events without the burden of having to purchase expensive equipment that they may use only twice a year. In2arts has proved to be hugely successful since it's launch event in January 2003. Any group interested in hiring some or all of the equipment should contact Jean Purvis on 01609 775507.
