Talented Young Musicians

The Purpose of the Scheme

The 'Grant Aid to Talented Young Musicians' Scheme aims to assist gifted young musicians to reach their maximum potential, without the expense of tuition and travel and accommodation to performances being too great a financial burden on their parents, guardians or on themselves.

Am I eligible?

The Young Musician will become eligible for grant aid when they have attained a minimum standard of Grade 6 - Distinction or above, under the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

  • The Young Musician should be aged under 18 years
  • Grant aid cannot be offered to Young Musicians who are students in Further or Higher Education unless they are permanently residing in the Hambleton District
  • The Young Musician must have resided within the District of Hambleton for not less than two years
  • Applicants are required to obtain a written reference detailing the Young Musician's talent and potential from a relevant tutor, under whom the musician is receiving tuition. This reference should be submitted with the application form
  • Annual requests for assistance will be considered where it can be clearly demonstrated that the musician is continuing to improve
  • Retrospective requests will not be considered
  • Applications should be completed by a parent or guardian
    What can I get?

Grants are discretionary and up to a maximum of 250. It is considered that talent is more important than financial background, therefore, applicants will not be subject to any kind of means test, however, details of full financial commitment to their musical activities will be required to be submitted.

When do I apply?

Applications for grant received by the Leisure Services Section are submitted for consideration by Hambleton Arts prior to the Spokesperson for Health making a final decision. Applications are considered throughout the year. If an application is unsuccessful the applicant may re-apply after a 12 month period.

  • Hambleton Arts is a committee of volunteers who co-ordinate the interests of arts groups in the Hambleton District. Their aim is to encourage local communities to widen the scope of arts in rural and sparsely populated areas, as well as the market towns within the district.
