Broadacres, Northallerton, have teamed up with Hambleton District Council to offer a range of events and opportunities for young people across Hambleton. The organisations are working together to provide more activities for young people with the barrier of cost reduced or completely removed. From music events to free gym access, find out below what we have been doing for 8 - 16 year olds:

Hambleton District Council and Broadacres are working in partnership to deliver a series of music events for young people throughout over the next few months. Band nights, or Battle of the Bands will take place at Hambleton Forum in Northallerton on 21st September 2007, 23rd November 2007, 8th February 2008 and 25th April 2008. Local young bands take to the stage and perform to an audience of hundreds of young people.
The first event - on 21 September - saw 9 bands take part with around 250 young people coming along to watch. After an exciting competition, 'The Decades' from Knaresborough were the eventual winners, who will now have chance to record a CD and have their songs played on Minster Northallerton FM, as well as being interviewed on the radio station.
Anyone interested in competing in or attending in the forthcoming Battle of the Bands should contact Kate Staines, Arts Development Officer on 01609 767203 or email kate.staines@hambleton.gov.uk

To help young people get fit and active, Broadacres are supporting the membership of three children from each secondary school in Hambleton for six months - and inviting them to bring a friend each along as well. The membership will include unrestricted swimming, access to some fitness classes and unlimited visits during the six months to the 'MAX!' teenage gym sessions in the Zest Health & Fitness gyms at the leisure centres across the district.

The schools have been given the chance to award the membership gift from any criteria they wish, with a view to using them as a reward or benefiting those who may not otherwise be able to access such facilities. A number of the lucky young people are pictured on the right, along with Councillor Ralph Andrew (left), Steve Towers - Managing Director of Broadacres (seated) and Andy Pickard - School Sports Partnership Manager (right).
