School - work experience placements
Work experience for school aged young people is an important part of education for employability which allows all students to learn about the world of work in a "real life" working situation.
Work experience covers a range of experiences and purposes:
- Block work experience - usually two weeks.
- Extended work experience - for example, placements for one day a week undertaken as part of a planned programme of study.
- Work placements - for example, half a day per week to support an applied, vocational or work related course.
It is intended to give a student an experience of working life and the key skills needed in the workplace rather than a chance to try out an occupation they may want to follow. Visit the North Yorkshire County Council Opens in a new window website for useful information.
