Update: Latest information on Swine Influenza Opens in a new window

To anyone born after the early fifties the threat of serious illness from the common infectious diseases is not a great concern. This has been due to improvements in general health and immunisation schemes. There are however a number of diseases that can affect the community at large from contact with others or by being transmitted on food. The most common problem affecting the most people will be a tummy bug of some description. It may be fairly mild or very serious such as happened with the E. Coli outbreak in Scotland where people died.

If you go to your doctor and they suspect or have found you to be suffering from certain diseases then they will let us know and we will contact you to try to find out how you contacted it. In this way we can take steps to stop the spread of illness. With a lot of upset tummies most people attribute it to overindulgence. If however you and members of your family or friends are ill it could be the result of unsafe food being sold. If this does happen we would be very interested to find out. Only in this way can we detect problems and deal with it to help stop others suffering. You can do this by contacting any of our offices or at weekends you can contact us out of hours on 01609 767182.
