Shared care for children
Many disabled children enjoy short breaks away from home. This offers opportunities to make friends and explore new activities. Many parents of disabled children also value these short breaks, having time for themselves with the knowledge that their child is safe and happy.
Short breaks are provided in family settings throughout North Yorkshire. Barnardos Opens in a new window and Action for Children Opens in a new window both offer family placements for children on our behalf. We can also offer breaks within a residential setting, having three small centres that cater for severely disabled children from the ages of 6 to 17 years.
Breaks can last for a few hours, overnight, during the week, at the weekend or for a few days in school holidays. Placements are carefully selected to match the needs of each child and it is hoped that links will be forged that will last for many years.
