Development Policies DPD

This document sets out the proposed approach for detailed policies for controlling development and delivering the vision, objectives and core policies of the Core Strategy. Its policies play a key role in determining planning applications in the future. It does not deal with sites for development such as housing and employment allocations but it does have maps showing designations and areas for protection or safeguarding including Green Belt, transport investment schemes, town centres, shopping centres, historic and nature conservation sites.
Consultation on the Development Policies DPD Issues and Options took place in September - October 2005. The Preferred Options and the accompanying Sustainability Appraisal were issued for pre-submission public participation between 13 January and 24 February 2006. The Development Policies Pre-Submission Consultation Statement summarises the responses received at previous stages and how the issues have been addressed.
The Development Policies DPD was submitted to the Secretary of State on 25th August 2006. The representation period ended on 6th October 2006.Submitted representations relating to Alternative Policy Boundaries and sites were subject to consultation from 15th December 2006 to 26th January 2007. Copies of the representations received and the Regulation 31 and 33 Statements summarising responses can be viewed from the links below.
The Examination hearings took place over 7 days between 5th - 28th June 2007. Karen McCabe was the Inspector and her binding report was issued on 15th November 2007. She was satisfied that the Plan satisfies the Planning Act and Regulations and it meets the Tests of Soundness subject to a number of amendments.
The Development Policies DPD as amended by the Inspector was adopted by the Council on 26th February 2008. The adopted Document can be viewed using the link below, together with the Adoption Statement and Environmental Statement. The submitted Final Sustainability Appraisal Report did not need to be amended following the Inspector's Report.
