Conservation Area Appraisal SPDs

CAA SPD Northallerton (1024 x 1405)In December 2010 the Council adopted its fourth set of Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs). These Conservation Area Appraisals (CAAs) cover the five market towns of Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton, Stokesley and Thirsk. Conservation areas are places which have special architectural or historic interest and are valued for their visual characteristics. These SPDs are intended to define and record these areas in order to preserve their value. They are aimed at residents of conservation areas, people wanting to apply for planning permission in or near conservation areas, Development Management Planners or anyone else with an interest in conservation.

As well as defining the boundary of the conservation areas, they also show where listed buildings are, as well as important hedgerows, trees and areas of open space. These maps are found at the back of the documents and take effect from 21 December 2010. A Design Guide has also been produced which provides guidance for anyone wanting to carry out any work within the conservation area.
