Affordable Housing SPD

AH SPD CoverIn June 2008 the Council adopted its first Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) as part of the Local Development Framework (LDF). The Affordable Housing SPD covers issues relating to the negotiation of affordable housing. It provides detailed guidance for the public, planners, housing providers, developers and their agents, clarifying definitions and procedural matters in dealing with planning applications for housing.

The SPD was produced in accordance with other LDF policies found in the Core Strategy and Development Policies Development Plan Documents (DPDs). It was also subject to a Sustainability Appraisal undertaken independently by Land Use Consultants. That report should be read in conjunction with the SPD.

As part of the six week consultation on the draft SPD, a public meeting took place in Northallerton in January 2008. This questions and answers session coveried all issues in the document. All comments received were summarised in a statement, reported to the Council and made available for inspection. Unlike a DPD, the SPD did not have to be submitted to the Government for Examination by an independent Inspector. The Council considered the responses and agreed any changes to be made in the adopted version.
