Regional Spatial Strategy
The Yorkshire and Humber Plan sets out a broad long-term strategy for development in the region. It covers topics such as housing, economic development, transport, the environment and regeneration. The plan is the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the region. Published in May 2008, the RSS is a statutory document and part of the Development Plan and informs the preparation of the Region's Local Development Frameworks It is an important consideration in the determination of planning applications.
A review of the RSS was planned to be taken forward by Local Government Yorkshire and Humber (LGYH) as part of a new Integrated Regional Strategy (IRS). However work on this was abandoned following the Government's announcement of their intention to abilish the RSS.
The RSS was revoked on 6 July 2010 and was due to be abolished altogether through the 'Localism Bill' published on 13 December 2010. However following the 'Cala Homes' High Court challenge decision of 10 November 2010, the RSS was re-instated as part of the Development Plan.
