A Gypsy & Traveller Accomodation Assessment Opens in a new window for North Yorkshire was undertaken by consultants arc4 in 2007/08. It established a current shortfall of 14 pitches in Hambleton District. Further research is now being undertaken into the needs of showpeople and for transit sites.
A steering group of Planning and Housing Officers in York and North Yorkshire has been established and an Action Plan Opens in a new window has been produced to help improve conditions and services for Gypsies and Travellers. Lewis Stokes was appointed North Yorkshire Gypsy and Traveller Officer in April 2009 and can be contacted on 01609 727295 (mobile 07545 422354) or email lewis.stokes@hambleton.gov.uk
