Plastic Recycling

Plastic bottle banks can now be found at the following recycling centres:

B & Q, Northallerton
Applegarth, Northallerton
Auction Mart Car Park, Bedale
Tesco, Thirsk
Galtres Centre, Easingwold
Co-op, Stokesley

Each will take plastic bottles - from milk and pop to cleaning and shampoo containers.

Plastic takes up a lot of space in the dustbin but by recycling just one bottle we can save enough energy to power a 60 watt light bulb for 6 hours.

There are many types of plastic in use but only those made from polymers 1, 2 and 3 can be accepted at the plastic bottle bank.

This generally covers all types of plastic bottles but to check look at the bottom of the container and see what number is in the triangle. If it is any higher than 3 then it CANNOT be recycled and will contaminate the bin.polymer 1 symbolpolymer 2 symbolpolymer 3 symbol

Also wash, remove tops and squash the bottles before placing in the bins. Plastic recycling is expensive - bins are emptied twice a week - so the more we can get more into the banks the better.
