Kerbside Recycling

When will my blue box & bag be collected?

 Please confirm by pressing GO.

Please note: If your village or road does not appear on the drop down list it can be for a number of reasons:

  • We are unable to offer a kerbside collection as the vehicle cannot access your road. This may be just part of a road or village.
  • If you currently have communal refuse collection bins we may be providing communal recycling bins.
  • If you live in an elderly person's complex or sheltered accommodation we may be providing communal recycling bins.
  • You may live in a remote part of the District where it is not practicable to provide this service. You should have been provided with a box for use at the nearest recycling centre.
  • We are currently unable to offer this service but will be extending into your area next year.

Your box and bag need to be placed at the edge of your property (the curtilage) or at your designated collection point from 7.30am.
Your blue bag and box will be replaced when worn or damaged.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to put my bin and recycling out so early?
Collection rounds start early - if you don't receive your collection until later in the day we still need you to leave your recycling and rubbish out early in case circumstances beyond our
control - like breakdowns, bad weather and road works - mean we have to reschedule rounds.

Why don't you accept all plastics in the box?
At the moment there is a very low market demand for the recycling of many types of plastics, due to the cost of reprocessing and the limited variety of products some plastics can be made into. The plastic bottle recycling market is established. Unfortunately trays and tubs etc cannot be included in the recycling process yet and can lead to contamination problems. This may change in the future though.

I live on a farm/rural property. Do I still get a box and bag?
Yes, but you may not get a collection until it is practicable to do so. We will try to include you in the service at a later stage.

Why won't you take any refuse bags I leave at the side of my bin?
Reducing the amount of waste you produce is even more important than recycling. If the extra waste cannot be stored until the next appropriate collection day, it is your responsibility to dispose of it legally.

What happens if I can't manage to put my recycling and bin out for collection?
Please ring us on 0845 1211 555 and we may be able to offer you an assisted collection. Recycle regularly so that your box and bag doesn't become too full or heavy.

Why do I pay so much council tax for my recycling and bin to be emptied?
You don't. The total cost of waste and recycling collection in Hambleton last year was only £36.21 per household. The rest of your council tax pays for a wide range of services.
