a taxiTravelling people - support for children

The Department for Children, Schools and Families refers to Travellers as identifiable groups that are traditionally associated with a nomadic lifestyle. This includes Gypsies, Scottish, Welsh or Irish Travellers, Showground families, Circus people, Bargees and New Travellers.

Many of the Travellers have a long association with North Yorkshire and uphold distinct traditions and beliefs. Some may be continually mobile, some occasionally mobile, some may live in houses and others may be seasonal workers.

The Traveller Support Service Opens in a new window aims to help overcome problems of interrupted schooling and provide access to a positive and enriching educational experience for every child. The Service supports all Traveller families, schools and other education settings and aims to ensure that all traveller children and young people, including those who move frequently or live in isolated parts of the county, have access to a full curriculum within mainstream schools.
