About the Parish

Although North Yorkshire has many attractive villages, Crakehall has rightly been described as the prettiest of those in the lower Dales. The five-acre village green with its giant sycamores and lime trees is dominated by Crakehall Hall (see Main Properties) and is enclosed by stone built cottages dating back to the 1750's. Overlooked by the village Inn, the green hosts both cricket and quoits to provide the typical village green scene in summer. In 1996 Crakehall won the Vale of York best kept village competition and was again runner-up in 1998.
