Appleton Wiske Parish
About the Parish
Appleton Wiske is a truly surprising village that is well worth the effort of finding. Lying in rolling countryside between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Dales it is close to a number of large towns and yet is tucked into its own little piece of countryside tranquillity.
After lunch at the Shorthorn Inn a gentle walk along the village main street is a walk through history. St Mary's is a beautiful village stone built church. John Wesley may or may not have passed here but his influence is remembered in a splendid Methodist chapel.
The village pump is an unusual find today but is well preserved and easy to find as you walk through the village.
