-Supporting young people leaving care

Leaving care is an important time in the life of many young people in North Yorkshire. The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 ensures that councils take responsibility for giving support to young people living in and leaving care.

Visit North Yorkshire County Council's Opens in a new window website where you will find information on issues care leavers face and some of the services and support that is available as follows:

  • Legal status
  • Pathway Plans
  • Personal Advisers
  • Health
  • Education and employment
  • Accommodation
  • Practical skills
  • Financial support

Care Leavers in North Yorkshire who have been in care in another authority can contact the leaving care team for assistance in an emergency. Other local authorities requesting a service for a young person need to make a referral via the North Yorkshire County Council Customer Service Centre.
