Funeral - cost information

There are many options available when arranging a funeral. What you decide to do is entirely up to you and your family. The costs for the same services may vary considerably from one funeral director to another. You may wish to get more than one quote to compare prices. Remember, the cheapest service is not necessarily the best value. You may also organise an independent funeral, without using the services of a funeral director. There may be different costs associated with this type of funeral.

Some of the costs involved are called "disbursements". These are fees paid to others, for example for the crematorium, minister, doctors' certificates, newspaper announcements, flowers etc. Ask the funeral director for a written quotation detailing all these fees.

If you arrange a funeral you are responsible for paying the bill, so you need to decide how the costs will be paid. Funeral costs are normally recoverable from the deceased's estate.
