Volunteering is anything you do that helps other people or the general community beyond your own family, so long as you do it because you choose to and not for financial gain.
There are many good reasons to volunteer, you may want to:
- Meet new people
- Gain new experience
- Develop or learn new skills
- Meet a new challenge
- Fill spare time
- Make a difference
Volunteer Centres are there to help you find volunteering opportunities. In Hambleton these are managed by the following local development agencies:
- Easingwold and District Community Care Association - contact 01347 822875
- Northallerton and District Voluntary Services Association Opens in a new window
- Stokesley Community Care Association Opens in a new window
- Thirsk, Sowerby and District Community Care Association Opens in a new window
All the Volunteer Centres in Hambleton work in partnership and are known as Volunteering Hambleton. Volunteering Hambleton is accredited by Volunteering England Opens in a new window, which is the National Volunteer Development Organisation for England and works to support and increase the quality, quantity, impact and accessibility of volunteering throughout the country.
V, the national young volunteers service, is an independent charity dedicated to helping young people volunteer in ways that matter to them. Its mission is to make volunteering opportunities so diverse, compelling and easy to get involved with that giving up your time to help others becomes a natural lifestyle choice for 16-25 year olds in England. Their network of 107 Vinvolved teams has been established to provide local advice and support for every young person in England, no matter where they live.
V inspired.com Opens in a new window makes it easy for young people to find information about volunteering opportunities.
