Hambleton Children and Young People's Plan

Children and young people are our future. They are also part of our communities now. In order to take their place in these communities, acknowledging their responsibilities to the rest of their community, they must feel they are a valued part of that community, with an equal right to share in community facilities.

Hambleton Children and Young Peoples Strategy Opens in a new window is therefore about providing facilities and services for young people to use now, but additionally about ensuring they have the opportunity to acquire skills they can use to fulfil their potential during the future part of their lives. It is also about giving young people an opportunity to be involved in decision making and in shaping their future.

However, as an integral part of our community, and in furtherance of social inclusion in its wider meaning, it is essential that the needs of young people are considered by organisations at all levels as a major cross-cutting theme. Within Hambleton District Council as a reflection of this commitment the Council's Cultural and Social Overview and Scrutiny Committee have undertaken a review of provision of facilities for young people and made positive recommendations which have been accepted by Council and are reflected in this strategy.

It is important that there is partnership working between organisations in the public, private and voluntary sector who all provide services of some sort to young people. The Hambleton Children and Young People's Sub Group has been established to ensure a coherent and integrated approach to providing for and supporting young people throughout Hambleton.
