Thirsk Regeneration Initiative (TRI) was formed in August 2001 as the partnership and delivery body for the local Market Towns Initiative (MTI) programme. External consultants were appointed to undertake consultations and draft a 'Healthcheck' and Action Plan for Thirsk. The task for TRI was to develop a programme of projects that met the needs of the community.
Delivery has been successful with numerous projects having been completed since the group was established. This includes supporting the establishment of The Thirsk Clock (a facility for young people), the East Thirsk Learning Resource Centre, Thirsk Festival, the Ritz Cinema, Thirsk Community Forest, the relocation of the Tourist Information Centre, improving signage around Thirsk (fingerpost and gateways signs have been installed), creating a blue plaque and interpretation heritage trail and developing Rural Arts North Yorkshire's site.
In 2004 a new 5 year Action Plan for Thirsk was produced.
