What is a Community Plan?
The objectives of the Community Plan / Strategy are:
- To allow local communities to articulate their aspirations, needs and priorities
- To co-ordinate the actions of the Council, and of the public, voluntary and community and private sector organisations that operate locally
- To focus and shape existing and future activities of those organisations so that they effectively meet community needs and aspirations
- To contribute to the achievement of sustainable development both locally and more widely, with local goals and priorities relating, where appropriate, to regional, national and even global aims.
The Community Plan has four key components:
- A long term vision for the area focussing on the outcomes that are to be achieved
- An action plan identifying shorter term priorities and activities that will contribute to the achievement of long-term outcomes
- A shared commitment to implement the action plan and proposals for doing so
- Arrangements for monitoring the implementation of the action plan, and for periodically reviewing the community strategy
Government guidance makes it very clear that the process of developing a Community Plan is as important as the final strategy itself. In Hambleton District, the development of the Hambleton District Community Plan is being linked closely to the development of the Community Investment Prospectus. This will ensure that the views of the community are a fundamental part of the Community Plan's development.
The Hambleton Community Plan was published in June 2003 and the focus is now on the implementation of the plan with the partners of the Hambleton Strategic Partnership
Updates on the progress of the plan will be produced on a regular basis
