The Northallerton and Villages Community Forum published their Community Plan in 2003. Their Action Plan responds to the results of consultations which were held in Northallerton, Morton on Swale, Brompton and Appleton Wiske . Many people in the area commented on issues that were and still are important to them and these were prioritised and included in the Northallerton and Villages Community Plan
The Forum have now hosted two Northallerton and Villages Exhibitions at the Town Hall. They have been held to enable members of the community to have the opportunity to view the overall actions contained in the Community Plan. Comments received at the events have helped the group to prioritise actions in the plan.
In 2003 the Forum was awarded Renaissance Market Town status which is a Yorkshire Forward Opens in a new window scheme to assist in the regeneration of market towns. The town has benefited from 'experts' funded by Yorkshire Forward who undertook detailed research, consultation and planning to develop a long term vision and masterplan for Northallerton. This initiative is built on the work that has already been included in the Northallerton and Villages Community Plan.

Successes to date include producing a tourism leaflet and town trail, establishing Northallerton Base Project (facility for young people), creating a Northallerton Cinema in partnership with Northallerton Rotary and the Hambleton Forum and installing new signage in the town (fingerposts and gateway signage). The Northallerton Town logo is managed, on behalf of the town, by Simon Bailes ( 01609 780888).
