Bedale Renaissance Market Town

In July 2003, Bedale was awarded Renaissance Market Town status by Yorkshire Forward Opens in a new window as part of their commitment to development of the economies in rural areas.

The town has benefited from the support of town planning, transport, tourism and socio-economic expertise. This intensive programme has built on the existing Community Plan written by the Bedale and Villages Community Plan Forum, with a number of additional consultations and research work being undertaken.

This process has resulted in the development of a Renaissance Market Town Charter, a Masterplan and Delivery Plan.

Town Charter - Guiding principles for the towns' development over the next 25 years.
Masterplan - A spatial representation of the towns' development over the next 25 years, highlighting key areas for development
Delivery Plan - Details of key projects for sustainable change in the towns over the next 25 years and how this can be achieved.
Vision Statement - A vision of what Bedale may be like in 25 years time

A wide range of projects have been identified through this process that will help to regenerate the town and positive steps are being taken to ensure that these projects continue to be driven forward beyond the life of RMT.
