If you hold or organise an occasional sale including a car boot sale (that is to say not a fixed/regular trading event) within North Yorkshire, or such a sale is to be held on your premises, then you must notify us. Notification is required from both the organiser and the premises owners and must be given at least 21 days before the event.

Livestock sales, 'chartered' markets and events conducted by a charity are exempt.

You can download a notification form from the forms section below and should send the completed form to Trading Standards & Regulatory Services, Standard House, 48 High Street, Northallerton. DL7 8EQ.

If you are selling second hand goods at a car boot or other event on a regular basis then you need to register as a second hand dealer. The registration form can be found in the forms section and should be returned to the address above with the administration fee of 3.50. As a second hand dealer you are also required to keep some records of your stock.
