To operate a business you may need to obtain permission from the District Council:
Environmental Health
Environmental Health officers deal with, and provide advice on, a wide range of issues. These are likely to affect businesses involved in the manufacture of food and catering. For advice on whether a specific licence is required, contact Environmental Health.
Operating Licences
The Council issues licences for a number of activities, including Premises Licences and Taxi and Hackney Carriage Licences. For further information, contact Diane Henry on 01609 767131.
Planning Permission
Planning permission may be needed if you propose to change the use of a building, extend an existing building or create a new building.
For advice on whether planning permission is needed and how to apply for permission, contact the Development Control Section on 0845 1211 555.
Building Regulations
Alterations to buildings and the construction of new buildings will also require Building Regulations approval, which is concerned with the structural integrity of the work and matters such as drainage and insulation. For further information, contact North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership on 01347 822703.
