Benefits

Benefits are your right, not charity.

Hambleton District Council is responsible for administering benefits on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions. Council tax and housing benefit is designed to help people who are living on pensions, paying for childcare, unemployed or on low incomes pay their rent and/or council tax.

Housing benefit is a contribution towards housing costs for people who pay rent - which is why it is often called rent allowance or rent rebate. Council Tax benefit is available to people who pay council tax on their home.

Both benefits are means tested - income and savings will be taken into consideration. And individual circumstances - along with those of any person living in the same house - will also be taken into account.
