  • Applicants are required to obtain a written reference detailing the sportspersons talent and potential from a relevant teacher, coach or other qualified person under whom the sportsperson is receiving training. This reference should be submitted with the application form
  • Applicants should also note that an independent reference from the appropriate Sports Governing Body will also be required. This reference will be directly requested by Hambleton District Council on a confidential basis
  • Annual requests for assistance will only be considered where it can be clearly demonstrated that the sportsperson:
    a) is continuing to improve
    b) has not fulfilled his/her maximum potential (this will be determined by the independent governing body reference)
  • Retrospective requests will not be considered
  • Applications should be completed by a parent or guardian

What can I get?
Grants are discretionary and up to a maximum of £150. It is considered that talent is more important than financial background, therefore applicants will not be subject to any kind of means test, however, details of full financial commitment to the sport will be required to be submitted.

Successful applicants will also receive free use of relevant Hambleton Leisure Facilities. These activities will be confirmed on offer of the grant.

When do I apply?
All applications for grants received by the Leisure Services Section are submitted for consideration by the appropriate Branch and Executive Committee of the Hambleton Sports Council prior to the Spokesperson for Health making the final decision.
Ordinarily applications are considered annually from 1 April. However, should funds allow, late applications will be given full consideration during the year.
If an application is unsuccessful the applicant may re-apply after a 12 month period.

How to apply
Contact the Leisure Services Section at an early stage to discuss your particular circumstances.
Either email the Grant Scheme Contact: david.earl@hambleton.gov.uk or contact the Leisure Services Section.
If appropriate, an application form will be sent for completion.
