Equipped Children's Play

The Purpose of the Scheme
The aim of the scheme is to assist Parish Councils and voluntary groups to provide safe and stimulating equipped children's play areas suitable for each stage of a child's development.

Eligible Projects
Grants can be considered towards the capital cost of providing equipment, safety surfacing, fencing and landscaping to either:

  • Expand or improve an existing play area
  • Provide equipment for a new play area
  • Improvements to play area to comply with parliamentary legislation

Applications will be assessed to ensure:

  • The play area will be open for general public use
  • The play area proposed is consistent with the advice issued by the North Yorkshire Playing Field Association and Hambleton Leisure's 'Play Area Guidelines' (copy available on request)

Note: Retrospective applications will not be considered, however, in exceptional circumstances prior permission may be given to incur expenditure without prejudice to the result of the application.

Ineligible Projects

  • General repairs to equipment, ie. painting
  • General repairs to play areas, ie. fencing, seating

Grant Available

New Build - limited to 25% of the total cost of the project up to a maximum of 1,000
Improvements - limited to 25% of the total cost of the project up to a maximum of 400 in any 2 year period

Timing of Application
Applications are considered by the Hambleton District Council's spokesperson for Health

Contact the Leisure Services Section at an early stage in your project planning. You can either email the
Grant Scheme Contact: david.earl@hambleton.gov.uk or contact the Leisure Services Section.
If appropriate, an application form will be sent for completion.
